About Michael Sanders

Michael Sanders is a tax attorney. He is lead partner at Blank Rome LLP’s Washington, D.C., office tax group.

Blank Rome is an Am Law 100 firm with 13 offices and more than 600 attorneys and principals. It provides a range of legal and advocacy services to clients both domestically and throughout the world. The firm was founded in 1946.

At Blank Rome, Sanders specializes in taxation. He is particularly knowledgeable in matters affecting partnerships, limited liability companies and S corporations. His other areas of expertise include real estate, tax controversy, Qualified Opportunity Funds and estate planning.

Sanders also has a large practice in the area of exempt organizations involving health care and low-income housing, associations and joint ventures between for-profits and nonprofits, and structuring the new markets tax credit and historic tax credit transactions. Sanders regularly serves as an expert witness in complex litigation.

Before joining Blank Rome in 2008, Sanders was head of the tax department at Powell Goldstein LLP. He previously spent nearly 28 years working for the now-defunct Ginsburg, Feldman and Bress¸ where he was most recently a senior tax partner.

Sanders is author of “Joint Ventures Involving Tax-Exempt Organizations.”

He is also an adjunct professor at George Washington University and Georgetown University. In 2016, he was honored by George Washington University for his 40 years of teaching at the school.

Sanders holds a law degree from New York University.
